What are the lost-and-found procedures of the Deutsche Bahn (German national train system)?
Deutsche Bahn looks for lost items up to four weeks from the date of loss. Lost items can be reported online at www.bahn.de and following the links to “Services” and “Reporting a Loss,” by calling (0900) 1 99 05 99 (which costs € 0.59 per minute from a landline phone), or by filling out a form in person at any train station. If you report your loss online, you can immediately search their database to see if anything matches the lost item description.
Deutsche Bahn informs the owner directly if a lost item has been found and will ship the lost item for varying fees.
Unclaimed items will eventually be sold at a public auction.
